Stan Lee, comics industry giant and creator of too many superheroes to name here, has pulled out of an appearance at Big Apple Con this weekend, convention organizers report. Posts appeared on Big Apple Con’s website and their social media pages announcing the cancellation and expressing their wishes for Lee to get well soon.
“Big Apple Comic Con has just been informed that due to health issues, Stan Lee will NOT be appearing at the convention,” read Big Apple Con’s post on Instagram. “Stan keeps to an amazing schedule, and it seems to have taken its toll.”
The post also mentioned that items signed by Lee will still be available in the Stan Lee Collectibles booth and that anyone who purchased an autograph or photo with Lee will be refunded.
With Lee being 94 years old, it may not be surprising that he isn’t able to appear at as many cons as he used to, but that doesn’t make it any less sad. The man is legendary in the comics industry as the creator of some of its most iconic and best-loved characters. He also clearly loves what he does. Big Apple Con wasn’t kidding when they said he keeps an amazing schedule.
Despite announcing his final convention appearances last year, he hasn’t slowed down at all. Just last week, he attended Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, and he continues to collaborate on new comics projects. He also appears in every Marvel movie, which has become a much more intensive job than it was ever meant to be. Last year, according to Cinema Blend, he shot four cameos in a single day.
Big Apple Con will take place March 11 and 12 in New York City. As for Stan Lee, he doesn’t appear to be done telling stories just yet. Here’s hoping he’s able to rest up and get well soon.
