Shazam Will Be The Most Lighthearted DCU Movie

With comic book craze going on, the DC cinematic universe has been pretty split. From Man of Steel to Wonder Woman, I personally have not hated any of the DCU films that have been released, but surely some could have had a lot of improvement. But within the next few years we are getting a lot of movies from them and that could have a lot of potential to be great, and Shazam could be one of the greats.

Scheduled for a 2019 release date, Shazam will be helmed by famous horror director David F. Sandberg who recently made horror flicks like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation. While I haven’t seen Annabelle: Creation, Lights Out was one of the better horror flicks to come out.

While some may be concerned about him jumping from horror to comic book form, it doesn’t worry me to much considering the success Scott Derrickson (also known for horror) had with Doctor Strange. Samberg recently made a statement about the movie saying “The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and (Billy Batson) is a kid that gets that chance,” Sandberg tells the Sun. “He gets to become the superhero. So it’ll be big with superpowers in a way. In terms of what people can expect, I think this will be one of the more fun or lighthearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure.”

In my opinion that is the best approach to go about this film, while Shazam may have more darker comic storyline, I like the approach here. Still 2 years away, the film has yet to announce who’ll play Shazam, we know that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is playing arch nemesis Black Adam, who’ll be getting his own stand alone film. Whoever they cast I’ll still be on board with this film and can’t wait till it comes out.
