M. Night Shyamalan's "Glass" has production date

M. Night Shyamalan’s 2017 thriller “Split” was one of 2017’s biggest surprises. A true return to form for the staggering filmmaker, Shyamalan pushed the film’s intriguing premise to its limits, and delivered one of the year’s best performances (from James McAvoy), as well as one of its best films.

But who are we kidding… it’s an “Unbreakable” sequel. That’s its greatest quality.

At the end of “Split,” it is revealed that the film takes place in the same universe as Shyamalan’s film “Unbreakable,” which stars Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. The twist became a contemporary classic, and generated incredible buzz for the next installment in this franchise.

On April 26, Shyamalan confirmed that a third film, titled “Glass,” would indeed be his next project, and the film would star Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy, and Anya Taylor-Joy. “American Horror Story” actress Sarah Paulson has also been cast in the film.

Now, it appears the film has a confirmed production start date. While on the press tour for his new film, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” Samuel L. Jackson said in an interview with Collider:

“We start rehearsal on [September] 18th, and I start shooting on the 25th.”

Additionally, fellow “Glass” star James McAvoy said on the July 19th edition of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that he is preparing to shoot the sequel as well.

“Glass” is being produced by Shyamalan, Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions), Ashwin Rajan, and Marc Bienstock, and will be distributed by Universal Pictures. It is set for release on January 18, 2019.
