J.K. Rowling teases new books in the works

J.K. Rowling has had a busy year. In addition to penning the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, she also assisted with the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child while still staying active on Twitter to boot. So while she’s been doing a lot of writing, she hasn’t published a proper novel since 2015’s Career of Evil (her third Cormoran Strike detective novel published under the alias “Robert Galbraith”). When an anxious fan asked her about it over Twitter Wednesday, Rowling revealed that she was, in fact, working on a new novel. Quite literally, according to her, the question came as she was writing the book on her computer.

When someone asked if that work would be another Galbraith novel or one under her own name, Rowling said she was writing “one of each,” but wasn’t sure which would come out first. She also didn’t say whether the J.K. Rowling book would be set in the Harry Potter universe or an independent novel like The Casual Vacancy, but she did confirm she will not be writing any novels featuring Newt Scamander (the Fantastic Beasts protagonist portrayed on-screen by Eddie Redmayne).

As a bonus for Fantastic Beasts fans, Rowling even threw in a clarifying tidbit about why Queenie (Alison Sudol) seems so much more powerful at legilimency than Harry Potter characters like Severus Snape.
