Despite the mixed reaction to the announcement of a “Hellboy” reboot without Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro, the new film, currently titled “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen,” is taking shape quite nicely. Neil Marshall (“The Descent”, “Game of Thrones”) has been hired to direct, “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola is one of the credited screenwriters, and “Stranger Things” standout David Harbour is set to take on the role of the paranormal detective. Recently, one more name was added to this impressive team: Ian McShane.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms McShane’s involvement, stating that he will play the character Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, the adoptive father of the title character. This role was previously played by the late John Hurt in 2004’s “Hellboy.”

McShane is a veteran actor, who is best known for his roles in “Deadwood” and “American Gods.” He also portrays the character Winston in the “John Wick” franchise.

“Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen” has no release date yet, but is anticipating a September production commencement. The film will shoot in the U.K. and Bulgaria. Lionsgate will be partnering with Dark Horse Entertainment to bring Hellboy’s next adventure to the big screen.
