Josh Brolin is adding another character from the Marvel universe to his filmography, that of the telepathic Cable, son of X-Men’s Cyclops, in 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2. The Oscar-nominated Milk actor already plays the villain Thanos in the Disney/Marvel canon and will reprise that role in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
Brolin joins star Ryan Reynolds and Zazie Beetz, who is playing Domino, in the sequel that’s being directed by David Leitch.
Cable first appeared as an infant in the 1986 Uncanny X-Men series. His adult identity was created by writer Louise Simonson and artist/co-writer Rob Liefeld, with Cable first appearing in the March 1990 edition of The New Mutants. Cable later was paired with Deadpool in a 2004 comic-book series.
Since the announcement was made, many fans have cried in outrage as Brolin being in both Fox’s Marvel Universe, as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In response, Ryan Reynolds took to twitter to address this concern.
The fuck, Fox! You can’t play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. pic.twitter.com/AQCRp1aWKg
